Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area (MPA) spans 20,070 hektar and protects the vibrant marine and coastal ecosystems around the islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan in southeast Bali.

Known for its breathtaking coral reefs — home to nearly 300 coral species and over 600 reef fish species — the MPA is a global hotspot for encounters with ocean sunfish (mola) and manta rays. These gentle giants use the reefs as cleaning and feeding stations, making the MPA a must-visit for divers, researchers, and marine enthusiasts.

What sets Nusa Penida apart is its blend of ecological richness and cultural heritage. Traditional practices like Nyepi Segara, a day when all marine activities pause to honor the sea, are integrated into conservation efforts.

Community initiatives such as mangrove tours and coral nurseries not only restore habitats but also provide alternative livelihoods.

With its participatory zoning system and partnerships between government, local communities, and tourism operators, the Nusa Penida MPA stands as a model of how marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism can thrive together.
